WE ARE A COMPANY WHO BELIEVES IN PHILANTHROPY, POWERED BY CAPITALISM

The "last" refers to those who have been left behind in society—those who are at the bottom of socio-economic ladders, including individuals experiencing chronic unemployment or underemployment. In the United States, for example, the poverty rate was 11.4% in 2020, with more than 37 million people living in poverty (U.S. Census Bureau, 2021). Economic inequality has widened over the years, with the wealth gap between the richest and the poorest continuing to grow. Addressing the needs of the “last” means creating policies that focus on affordable housing, healthcare, and education to lift people out of systemic poverty.

The "least" refers to those who are often invisible or voiceless in society—people who are vulnerable due to their age, disability, or other conditions that limit their ability to advocate for themselves. This group includes children in foster care, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than 7 million children receive special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), representing about 14% of all public school students (National Center for Education Statistics, 2021). Moreover, senior citizens face increasing challenges, with over 5 million older adults living in poverty in the U.S. (National Council on Aging, 2021). Focusing on the "least" often involves providing necessary healthcare, legal protections, and social services.

The "lost" encompasses those who have fallen through societal cracks, often due to addiction, mental illness, or incarceration. In the U.S., an estimated 580,000 people experience homelessness on any given night, with many facing mental health issues or substance abuse problems (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2021). Additionally, the country has the highest incarceration rate in the world, with over 2 million people in prisons or jails (Prison Policy Initiative, 2021). Rehabilitation programs, mental health services, and re-entry initiatives for formerly incarcerated individuals are vital in addressing the needs of the "lost."
